Suwannee Springfest 2008 Songwriting Contest

The Suwannee Springfest Songwriting Contest is sponsored & organized by 
Suwannee Springfest and Live Oak Music & Arts Foundation, Inc. 
to recognize, honor, promote, and advance talented new performing songwriters. 
Judging will be accorded by a panel of music professionals.  

Six finalists have been selected to perform solo, 3 songs each, in competition
at Suwannee Springfest 2008, on Thursday evening, March 27th, beginning at 7PM.

 The competition is always very tight, but this year was even more so. 
Our sincere thanks goes out to every one of the participants.  Keep writing your songs and touching hearts with your music.

Join us Thursday, March 27th at 7pm 
in the Music Hall
at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park
for our final competition where each finalist will perform three original songs, and the 2007 Songwriting Contest winner,
John William Davis
will perform his original music, as well.

All entries were evaluated based equally on melody, lyrical content, and presentation.  The finalist selected as the first place winner will receive $200 plus a main stage performance spot at Suwannee Springfest 2009.

What is the purpose of the contest?

The Suwannee Springfest Songwriting Contest is sponsored and organized by Suwannee Springfest and Live Oak Music and Arts Foundation, Inc. to recognize, honor, promote, and advance talented performing songwriters. 

Who is Live Oak Music & Arts Foundation?
The Live Oak Music and Arts Foundation is the non-profit arm of Magnolia Music & Events.  The Magnolia Music family founded  LOMAF to provide education and charitable assistance to the North Florida community in music and other art forms.
Plans for programs include but are not limited to maintaining facilities for and sponsoring instructional workshops, public presentations, competitions, and public performances.  In addition, LOMAF has provided or plans to provide instruments and supplies, tuition assistance, and artist retreats for the study and advancement of music and other art forms.

Who is eligible to enter?

This contest is for performing songwriters and is open to amateur songwriters only.  For the purposes of this contest, an amateur songwriter is defined as a person whose primary source of income is not derived from songwriting royalties and has never had a staff writing contract with a publishing company.  Touring musicians are encouraged to enter.  The songwriter must be able to perform solo.

 What happens when I enter my song(s)?

All entries will be evaluated based equally on melody, lyrical content, and presentation.  Please avoid overly produced recordings, as each finalist will be judged on their solo performance. Please avoid long lead-ins-get to the lyrics quickly. Judging will be accorded by a panel of music professionals.  Six finalists will be selected to perform three (3) songs, solo, in a competition on Thursday evening, March 27 at Suwannee Springfest 2008.

 Prizes?

The finalist selected as the first place winner will receive $200 plus a main stage performance spot at Suwannee Springfest 2009.  The second place winner will receive a $100 cash prize.  The third place winner will receive a $50 cash prize.  Each finalist will receive a weekend pass, including camping, for the 2008 festival.
